"You always steal the show," Nothin' On You by B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars.
Post-SUKMA now, and I was looking forward to just chillin' at my crib before the start of a new semester. Let me brief you about what the aforementioned chillin' brought me these few days.
Realisation.
While chillin', I realized that even though I'm one of the taller people anywhere I go at the moment, I will be of below average height once I get to Australia. And we're still not talking about the rugby people over there. They must be HUGE! So I'll be a midget in the team, reducing my chances of being able to play over there.
Now I could just go find a corner and cry (boohoo), but I have decided that I am going to do something about it to be counted in a team over there. I wouldn't mind playing scrum-half, just as long as I get to play, so I'll work on myself to become not-so-small.
Paper-marking.
I was asked to help mark a few English essay papers, 3 classes totaling up to almost a hundred papers. Easy right? Wrong! I got a taste of actually influencing the numbers that will end up on the persons' report cards. I felt an immense amount of responsibility on my shoulders and tried my very best to give fair scores to everybody, even if I knew that the end score will ultimately be determined by the person I was helping, a real professional.
I got my first taste of reading school-goers' essays, and I have to say, a fair few of them can't write in English. Most were writing using Malay grammar. If you translated the sentences into Malay word for word, they would make perfect Malay sentences. And these were city kids which are well-exposed to English. I can't imagine the challenge that we'll face teaching and marking the papers of those who lack English exposure. I need to prepare myself, mentally especially, for that.
Finding out that I have work (super late)
While I was happily browsing my Facebook homepage, I encountered a status from one of my chalkies asking if anybody has done their Linguistics portfolio yet. I sat up and said a little too loudly, "What Linguistics portfolio??" Luckily, no one was around. I decided to ignore it, thinking of it as a prank (even though the person who posted the status wasn't known to make jokes about Linguistics). Then a few facebook minutes later (2 hours in the real world), another chalkie asked me directly if I'd done anything on the Linguistics portfolio. I asked him what he was talking about. Then he said that while I was away on SUKMA training, a lecturer (won't say who) gave some work to be done during the holidays.
Great. I get to know about this 4 days before opening day while everybody else has known for at least 3 weeks. Now I need to know what to do, since each person got different assignments. I'm currently in the process of acquiring that piece of knowledge. I'm hoping it's not too heavy.

SUKMA @ Melaka 2010
"There may only be one winner, but the fact will never stop us from being victorious," Noor Azman.
SUKMA 2010 Kedah Rugby Team (15-17 June 2010)
We went to Politeknik Merlimau, Malacca with high expectations, not only from ourselves, but from all the people back home in Kedah. With a much improved team compared to the last SUKMA in Terengganu (where we got bronze), we were right to expect a lot from ourselves. The team included a senior National Team player (and the biggest guy in the whole tourney), a Malaysian representative at the Korat SEA Games, a MASUM player and a number of instantly recognisable faces from the Malaysian rugby scene.
However, we knew that the road was not going to be easy, positioned in the same group as Kelantan (top 4 for 3 years running), Sarawak (4 national players in the side) and Selangor (SUKMA 2006 gold medalists). Ours was easily the toughest group in the tournament.
First day
For the first game, the first-game-nerves got to us against Kelantan. It just didn't click for us. It ended in a 12-12 tie, but we still felt that we could have won it had our game been better.
Second game against Selangor, we got our game together and came out 21-5 victors.
Third game against Sarawak, they presented less of a fight than we anticipated. We were able to contain them effectively and won 24-0. Yours truly played in this one, coming in as a substitute for the last 2 minutes of the game, scoring a try.
So with 2 wins and a tie, we were going on to the quarter-finals as runners-up of the group.
Second day
We only had one game on the second day, and that was against Negeri Sembilan. They were light and fast. Fortunately, size was on our side and with the help of the captain's reliable boot, we got through to the semi-finals with a 14-10 win.
Third day
We were up against Johor for the semi-finals. Quite an impressive side with a good balance of speed and strength. We gave a good fight, but in the end, luck (and the referee) wasn't on our side. We suffered our first loss of the tournament, losing by one try, 14-7.
For the bronze medal match, we faced a strong Sabah side. Their gung-ho attitude in attacking and defending were too much for us to handle, as we ended up losing 15-0.
So in the end, we got 4th. Disappointed, but not disheartened. And thankful.
4th place
Cheers!

Missed Moments
"Sebaik-baik perancang adalah Allah SWT."
Heyya, I'm back on the bog, blog, whatever you call it nowadays. Not in the best of moods, but not particularly bad either. Not too tired, but definitely not all juiced-up. It's currently not night nor too bright outside. Life is neither up nor down. I'm not contradicting myself, nor am I telling the whole truth. However, I definitely am confusing you. (Whoever you might be, thanks for reading!)
So back to the title, I have missed a few moments in my Cohort that I have been waiting quite a long time for. The first being the Cohort Dinner (which I suggested, by the way <-- euw, attention-freak) and the second being the Children's Literature Exhibition (which I definitely feel that I would have rocked at <-- there he is again). Sigh~
HOWEVER!
Ehem, However, I didn't miss them on purpose or anything, it's just that I had another more urgent matter to attend to, which was (and still is) the SUKMA training programme. And I'm not too bummed out.
As the first line of this post suggests, everything that happens to us happens to us because God wills/allows it. If it doesn't happen, then it was never meant to be, don't you agree my good readers? So, I missed those events because I was MEANT to miss them, thus I shouldn't complain that life isn't fair, because even our lives are only borrowed, and our right to it does not exceed God's right to them, thus we go on living and praying and hoping for the best.
Never forget to ask God,
..Rabbanaa aatinaa fiddunyaa hasanah, wafilaakhirati hasanah, waqinaa 'azabannaar..
Pray, work and tawakkal. Leave it all in His hands, for they are the most able ones you're ever gonna get.
Cheers!
